Financial Health Educational Board Game Design
A board game that turns financial learning into a fun experience, with simple mechanics and strategic decisions that reinforce healthy financial habits.
The main challenge consisted of transforming abstract and complex financial concepts—interest, responsible saving, planning—into a visually attractive and playful experience for an intergenerational audience (children, youth, and adults). As a designer, the challenge was to balance Fundación MAPFRE's institutional identity with a dynamic graphic language that didn't feel intimidating. The approach had to build on a familiar mechanic (Monopoly style) while adapting every visual element to communicate "responsibility" rather than mere "speculation".
Roles
The creative process
The project was approached as a 360° product design. After the briefing, I developed the visual identity (logotype) using a robust and modern typography reminiscent of space sci-fi movies, as the characters are aliens stranded on Earth, and you must teach them how to manage resources so they can return to their planet.
- Iconography and Cards: I created a specific icon system to facilitate quick reading during the game.
- Editorial Design: The instruction booklet was laid out prioritizing visual hierarchy to reduce the learning curve.
- Asset Production: I designed everything from the board and outer box to the bills and challenge cards, ensuring each piece maintained chromatic and typographic consistency. Accessibility criteria were applied to guarantee an inclusive game.
Results
A production-ready product was delivered, featuring a professional aesthetic that elevated the perceived value of the educational material.
Integrating AI during the sketching and final illustration phases optimized times in creating secondary assets without losing the essence of the original vector design.
